Perfect for breakfast. Superb for snacks. Ideal for a buffet. Trendy as brunch co-stars. Four peculiarities that make sweet milk sandwiches a mouthwatering dish that the whole family can agree on.

Are we overdoing it? Before you answer, try the recipe for sweet rolls from Elena, one of our loyal food bloggers. The goodness and lightness of soy milk andcoconut oil make these little treats even more appetizing. Moreover, among the ingredients, there is also a little surprise: a pinch of food coloring100% natural -, made from extracts of fruits, vegetables and edible plants.

A detail that, if exploited, can trigger thewow effect of those present. Why would you want to eat them alone!

But let’s proceed with the recipe. Time is short and the urge to bake a soft, colorful bread is great. So much, like the urge to stuff it with a little jam, honey or — why not — with a soft slice of prosciutto, some sheets of grana cheese and a few leaves of arugula.

Ingredients for 6 milk buns

PS → If you prefer, you can substitute soy milk for cow’s milk, coconut oil for fresh cream butter, and brown sugar for white caster sugar.

Preparation

Start by heating the milk and dissolving the yeast. Next, in equal amounts, divide the milk into two bowls and, in one only, add ½ teaspoon of food coloring.

Take two more bowls and, in each of them, add 135 grams of flour, 25 grams of sugar and 15 grams of coconut oil. Now, in one of the two bowls, pour the milk with yeast; in the other, the one with dye, milk and yeast.

Knead until you have two smooth, homogeneous compounds. Cover them with transparent paper and let them rest for about 2 hours.

Once the loaves are well risen, roll them out into two rectangles-preferably, the same size.

Brush one of the two rectangles with alittlewater and overlap the other. Another stroke of the brush and a good roll-up finish the job.

At this point, all you have to do is cut 6 slices of 2.5 (max. 3) centimeters from the two-color cylinder of flour.

Place your buns on baking paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Finally, turn on the oven to 180 degrees C and bake the sweet milk buns for about 12 minutes. We recommend, however, that you test the baking with a wooden toothpick.
